FAQ

What is Seafarers’ Earnings Deduction?

SED is a UK tax relief that lets eligible seafarers deduct 100% of their seafaring earnings from their taxable income — meaning you pay no income tax on money earned at sea. You need to spend at least 365 days in a qualifying period mostly outside the UK.

Which rules does EasySED check?

EasySED checks the three day-count tests: the 183-day rule, the half-day rule and the foreign port rule, and updates them every time you log a trip. It can’t check other conditions, such as whether your vessel counts as a ship for SED or whether you’re resident, so read our guide to who qualifies or ask a tax adviser.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes — EasySED is fully offline. Log trips, attach evidence and check your status at sea with no signal at all. Your data stays on your device unless you choose to share or export it.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything is stored locally on your phone. EasySED never sends your trip data or evidence to any server. Because it’s only on your phone, keep a backup in case your phone is lost or replaced.

Can I claim if I’m taxed at source (PAYE)?

Yes, if you meet the SED conditions you can reclaim PAYE tax through Self Assessment. easySED organises the day counts and evidence copies that support a PAYE seafarer tax reclaim, and the records you’ll want when you apply for an NT (No Tax) code. Your accountant or tax adviser should check them and submit the claim.

What happens after my free year?

You’ll get a reminder before it ends. If you don’t subscribe, your trips and evidence stay on your phone — nothing is deleted and nothing is charged automatically.
